Hi everyone.
Officially with this post this new group “Digital St.Albans” is created.
Of course nobody will see this until I send an email in a couple of days, but this is it. 🙂
I want to use this space to explain some of the things that I have planned for this group, so you can comment, let me know if you liked it or not, and please let me know if you have any other ideas that help us.
Frequency
We are going to have at least one event each month. I have some other events planning for the future, but the minimum will be the “standard” meetup every month. We are going to start with that. Next one is on the 14th of March, check the post about it and sign up please.
I have also reserved the dates for the following 6 months, so you can plan ahead and save the day! No excuses!
If you want to have more events during the month, please let me know.
Topics
Now that we are not doing “just WordPress”, the problem is how to organize the events so we know what is coming. This is what I came up so far:
There will be 4 main topics:
- Marketing: SEO, social media, mailing, offline marketing, online marketing, growth, etc.
- Business: mainly online businesses, ecommerce, how to sell more, how to grow your business, freelancing, GDPR, legal, etc.
- Visual: so mainly design, but also frontend development, and UX, UI, and also builders (yes they will be here too), accesibility, etc. Everything that have to do with the visual part of our websites or online world.
- Technical: here is the development part, but also security, hostings, performance and everything that is a little more technical will go here.
Of course those are just names, under those topics there are so many different things and some of them are interconnected.
Each month we will dedicate the meetup event to one of those main topics, and we will be rotating that. For example, next month (march 2019) we will start with Marketing
Beginners
The group is completely open to begineers and non professionals, but I know that sometimes it feels complicated to join a group. To help solve this problem, I have planned to do a “Beginner Day” every 5 months. That day, the conversation and the topics will be aimed to help beginners and we will make sure that everyone understand everything we are talking about. Think about that as a “Introductory meetup” more than any other thing.
As I said, beginners are welcome to all events (please, come even if it is not a beginners day) and trust me, you will learn more on those days, but this is a way to help others to join.
I suppose you have noticed the 5 months thing, so the beginners day will be rotating with the different main topics. This next event will be a Marketing – Beginners day, and the next beginners day will be 5 months after, which will be a Business Topic, and so on. We will have at least 2 beginners day each year (so come to the standard meetups too!).
Type of Events
I have been recommended so many different types of events and we will do them. I want to write everything on the website, but I have limited time.
Lets say that we will add to the main Lean Coffee discussion, which is our main event, some other events like talks, group brainstorming, questions and answers, panel discussions, and some other ideas. I will be updating this website with all that. If you have any recomendations or experience doing any different type of events, please share it with us.
This is all, see you all next month!
Thanks!
